3d & 3e: Accessibility and Troubleshooting

ISTE Standard for Coaches 3: Digital Age Learning Environments –Technology coaches create and support effective digital age learning environments to maximize the learning of all students.

3d. Select, evaluate and facilitate the use of adaptive and assistive technologies to support student learning.

3e. Troubleshoot basic software, hardware and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments.

Meeting the mandate for universally accessible digital and analog learning resources is far more than a matter of compliance, but a matter of mindset.

In Web Accessibility: A Team Approach, I provide a rationale for the value of such a mindset; an overview of the concepts involved in web accessibility; an overview of accessibility law; resources for faculty; suggested key tasks for faculty; instructional technologists, and administrators; and an institutional process for developing and reviewing student accessibility to online and course content.

My post, Fostering Troubleshooting Skills in Digital Learning Environments, focuses on how as an instructor in digital environments, I provide troubleshooting resources to help students achieve both the autonomy and the just-in-time software and connectivity support to remain affectively and cognitively engaged with digital learning tools.
